#2 Student Quiz Bowl
Jasper Park Lodge
Sunday, September 26, 2010 beginning at 7:30p.m.
In conjunction with the Meet and Greet Session, and as a continuation of the opening evening of welcome and social events, take the opportunity to attend one of the CIF’s enduring traditions, THE QUIZ BOWL. Here is a chance to become an audience member and test your own skill as forestry student representatives compete in a question and answer format that is best described as an academic challenge that all Silver Ring schools (Technical and Universities) can compete at. It is based on the Society of American Foresters Quiz Bowl which has been running since the 1960’s. Our aim in presenting this fun and challenging activity is to provide support and encouragement to our forestry students from across Canada and provide a venue in which veteran CIF members can mingle with the students and both groups can get to know each other better. We’re expecting up to 10 schools competing this year and the winning team gets bragging rights and the “Quiz Bowl Man” trophy to hold for one year. The University of Alberta are defending champs this year. The CIF HAMPCO and U of A (supported by NAIT) are hosting the event this year, so make plans to attend THE QUIZ BOWL on Sunday evening, September 26, 2010, in the hallowed halls of the main building of Jasper Park Lodge beginning at 7:30p.m.

#4 Western Barbeque
Treefoil Lake (within walking distance of Jasper Park Lodge)
Tuesday September 28th, 2010 starting at 5:30p.m.
What’s a western visit and celebration without a barbeque? Make sure you don your cowboy hat and boots and enjoy a short trail walk to the Trefoil Lake lakefront dining area for a traditional western barbeque with all the trimmings. Van transportation will be available to the barbeque site courtesy of Jasper Park Lodge. Enjoy the lovely views of the lake and the mountain backdrop as you dine and relax to the music of the CIF Forestry band. Take a leisurely walk around the area and perhaps enjoy some of the planned recreation activities, but don’t forget to come back to the campfire for activities later that evening. We will be offering a sing-along led by talented forestry musicians that will give you a chance to “howl at the moon” and stare into the fire for a relaxing and enjoyable Western experience that’s going to be just plain fun. What better way to spend the last official evening of the conference. We’ll make sure there’s plenty of hot chocolate and marshmallows available ready for roasting.
