Silent Auction

2010 CIF-IFC Annual General Meeting and Conference
2010 Silent Auction – CIF AGM Jasper
Forests without Borders/Forêts sans Frontières is largely supported by the generous donors who contribute to our annual Silent Auction held during the CIF-IFC Annual General Meeting & Conference. This event will run throughout the conference and will feature some truly great items. Tables will be set up in Beauvert Room A and items will be open for bidding starting Monday September 27th in the morning. Further details about final bidding times and instructions will be put on displays in the room. We are hoping to beat last year’s donation record of almost $5000, which allows Forests without Borders/Forêts sans Frontières to continue its mission.

Individual members may contribute to the auction by making a personal donation or soliciting donations from their local businesses or organizations.
Members may bring items with them to the conference and drop them off at the registration desk on Sunday September 26th, during Registration Hours (1pm – 10 pm). Items may also be dropped off or sent by mail to the Rocky Mountain Section before September 24th:

Helping people restore ecosystems.
Forests without Borders/Forêts sans Frontières (FwB-FsF) is a charitable program operated by the Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier du Canada (CIF-IFC). This program allows members to work with existing non-government organizations to deliver skills, knowledge and tools that enable communities around the world to effectively meet their challenges and to realize the many benefits obtained from the forest. The scarcity of resources in these communities such as water and wood for basic needs results in a cascade of problems that undermine security and health.
Mission
- To enable communities locally and around the world to improve their natural and human conditions.
Vision
- To help communities achieve long-term sustainable use of their basic natural resources.
Objectives
- To restore and sustain damaged local ecosystems through afforestation and the promotion and use of good forestry practices;
- To ensure a safe and dependable supply of fresh water for all community inhabitants;
- To guarantee a sustainable supply of wood fiber for basic human needs (heating, cooking and shelter);
- To help people improve their understanding of the value and ecological benefits of forests.
Current Efforts
Forests without Borders/Forêts sans Frontières is working with African Community Project, a non-profit organization founded by Garry Brooks to bring sustainable livelihoods and improvements to communities in Zambia. Garry became a member of the Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier du Canada with the hopes of developing a mutually beneficial partnership that would allow other members of the CIF-IFC to take on an active role in community development and restoration projects. Currently their programs are establishing school tree nurseries, an eco-tourism centre and other activities that will benefit several communities. Other members are taking steps to form partnerships with other non-profit organizations working in Haiti.
